Britain lagging far behind Europe for apprenticeships

A report published in 2015 by Warwick Uni and GE capital found that only 9% of British firms offer apprenticeships compared to 40% in Germany and 50% in France. That’s bad news for the government’s plan to rebalance the economy and provide the skills that companies say they need. But all is not lost, in this report broadcast on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Today’ programme, Joe Lynam went to the National Space sector to look at a brand new type of ‘Higher’ apprenticeship which may go some way to dispel some of the negative perceptions surrounding apprenticeships.
